History of Snappi Fasteners

by The Makers of the Snappi Fastener
http://www.snappifastener.com

From tube and tin Hennie Visser made the very first diaper fastener.
He formed a template on a piece of thin wood, used tube to cut out the shape,
tin hooks were fashioned, and the Snappi fastener was ready.
He fastened his baby girls' diaper with this fastener, and it was perfect.

This unique diaper fastener was literally 'born' out of frustration.
Since his daughter's birth, the effort to fasten a diaper with a safety
pin proved too much and Hennie set his mind on developing a product
which would benefit not only fathers having to change diapers,
but would be used by almost the whole family for changing diapers easily.
It is really as simple as one-two-three.

Hennie Visser invented the Snappi diaper fastener, thanks to his daughter out of sheer desperation and to conquer the conventional fastening method with pins.

After a few years of creating a demand for his product, he successfully
formed a company. Manufacturing and distributing the fastener
worldwide and the fact that it is made from non-toxic materials ensures
that the Snappi diaper fastener is a sure winner.

His idea was patented in as many countries as possible to maintain
and supply the best product all over the world to customers.

Today he is still pursuing perfection of making the Snappi
fastener to function better, and keep millions of mothers happy. From
a humble beginning to date, 30 million fasteners have been sold
worldwide and the Company is going from strength to strength.

The hooks and elastic of the product are under constant scrutiny and if
there is a possibility that a change could enhance the performance of the
product, it is done. The Snappi Company has performed well over the years,
and continues to do so. It is the main goal apart from good customer service
and mutual business respect that this degree of success obtained is not
only maintained, but also steadily growing.

To all Snappi mothers out there, we wish you all the best with your
Snappi diaper fastener. Snappi babies are happy babies.

Disposable Ingredients

Here is a list of what goes into making the typical disposable diaper. Most disposable diapers are made with these components. Some materials may or may not be present in your brand.

*Polyethylene Film: This is used as back-sheet and it helps to stop the liquids from leaking out of the diaper. The back-sheet can also be made to look like a cloth back-sheet by adding a polypropylene non-woven to the film using hot melts.

*Tissue: This is used to help the manufacturing process, as a carrier for the pad. It comes from the Kraft paper process.

*Hot Melts: They are used to glue the different components of the diaper, such as the pad and the elastics. They are made of a mixture of resins, oils and tackifiers.

*Hydrophobic Non-woven: This is used as a top sheet for the leg cuffs; it will not allow water to pass through. It is made of polypropylene without any treatment.

*Hydrophilic Non-woven: It is the main top sheet in contact with the baby skin, allowing the liquids to flow into the diaper core.

The difference between the two non-wovens is the surfactant treatment used in the process.

*Elastics: Used to improve the fit of the diaper and usually made of polyurethane foam, rubber or lycras. They are used in the
waist and legs of the diapers.

*Lateral Tapes: These are used to hold the diaper in place once it is on the baby. They are made of polypropylene and hot melt. They can also be made of cloth-like material based also on polypropylene.

*Frontal Tape: It is used to allow for multiple repositionings of the lateral tape without tearing the back-sheet; it is made
of polypropylene film and attached to the front of the diaper with adhesive. Its use has helped to reduce the thickness of the poly film without the risk of potential tears associated with the lateral tapes.

*Cellulose: Used for the construction of the pad. It aids in the integrity and absorbing capacity to the diaper. It comes from pine trees. Liquids are absorbed due to the capillaries in the void spaces between the fibers and the surface tension angle between the fiber and the water. Back to top.
